More people are becoming aware of wearable fitness monitors. Often referred to as fitness trackers, these handy devices make it easy for people to track a variety of aspects related to their overall health. The trackers were introduced as a way for people with a history of heart disease and high blood pressure to track their heart rate during periods of activity. The response to these wearable devices was so overwhelming that fitness companies began incorporating other features into the device. Depending on the design of the fitness tracker, it could be used to monitor the heart rate, calories burned and even count the number of steps taken. To further accommodate the needs of the individuals interested in using these devices, companies now offer them in a range of styles.

How the Trackers Work

The most popular style of fitness tracker is the wrist model. The main compartment of the monitor houses a small sensor designed to read the vitals of a person when in contact with their skin. The face of the monitor section will be designed with a display to show the numbers associated with what the sensor reads. Depending on how many aspects the sensor is designed to read, the display could come equipped with a button to change the modes. In addition to the wrist models, fitness trackers are also available as items sewn into certain garments such as sports bras. The garments come with the same type of sensors, but often include the monitor with display as a separate unit.
